To coincide with the 2026 World Bee Day our speaker for the 20 May meeting will be ANU Professor Saul Cunningham. His topic for the evening will reflect his general interest in the diversity of crop pollinators, and the local impact of the varroa mite on pollination networks.

About the event
Professor Cunningham is the director of the Fenner School of Environmental Science at the Australian National University. He is widely published and recognised for his work on biodiversity in relation to crop pollination.
After gaining a Fulbright Award to study overseas, with research in the US and Costa Rica, he returned in 1995 to academic work in Australia. He then joined the CSIRO in Canberra as a research scientist, before becoming director of the Fenner School in 2017. Professor Cunningham continues his interest in finding ways to manage farming landscapes in order to preserve biodiversity while continuing to support agricultural production.
