Monthly Club Meeting - August

Our speaker for the August meeting Wed. 19 August, is Peter Abbott.

Peter has just returned from the Australian Native Bee conference, recently held in Cairns, where he spoke on the benefits of citizen science. These include new knowledge of how bees interact with plants, data on species distribution, and an increased public awareness of native bees.

In promoting responsible honey bee keeping, in which the need to provide floral resources and protect habitat for the broader insect community is as important as knowing what is happening inside the hive, we are fortunate to be able to learn from Peter’s observations and insights. Indeed, as the general public learn more about native bees and their needs, we as beekeepers need to be able to put forward the case where there is common cause and room for all.
